From our own work: We built Pulse, a fitness membership and coaching platform concept with member accounts, programs and a progress dashboard, to show how app products should look and behave. Read the Pulse case study.
The software side of connected devices
A sensor that sends readings nobody looks at is just an expensive wire. The value of a connected device sits in the software around it: the pipeline that collects its data, the back end that stores and checks it, and the dashboards and alerts that tell a person when to act.
That is the part this service covers. Data flows from devices to the cloud over MQTT or HTTP, is validated and stored, and appears on real-time dashboards with alerts by email, text or push notification. Companion mobile apps let field staff or customers check devices and change settings from their phones.
Built for the realities of field hardware
Devices lose connection, batteries fail, clocks drift and firmware versions multiply across a fleet. The software has to expect all of that: buffering data when a device is offline, flagging readings that make no sense, and showing clearly which units have gone quiet. Every reading carries a timestamp and device ID, so problems can be traced later.
Fleet management portals track every device, where it is installed, who owns it and what version it runs. Data can also flow on to your ERP, maintenance or analytics systems, so readings trigger work orders or reports rather than sitting in a separate silo.
What is in scope, and what is not
This service is focused on software. Hardware design, circuit boards and radio certification are specialist fields best handled by an engineering firm, with the software team working alongside them on the link between device and cloud. It suits manufacturers adding connectivity to a product, operators monitoring equipment, cold chains or buildings, and companies whose existing devices already produce data that nobody can easily use.
Projects usually begin with a small pilot: a handful of devices, one dashboard and the alerts that matter most. Running that in the field for a few weeks exposes connectivity gaps, unreliable sensors and alert thresholds that fire too often, all of which are far cheaper to fix before a full rollout. Once the pilot proves the data is trustworthy, the platform is scaled to the whole fleet.

Frequently asked questions
Can you work with devices we already have?
Usually, yes. If your devices can send data over the internet or through a gateway, a pipeline can be built to receive it. Older equipment sometimes needs a gateway or adapter, which is identified during discovery before any build work is priced.
How is device data kept secure?
Each device gets its own credentials, data is encrypted in transit, and access to dashboards is controlled by user role. Security choices are documented so your team, or an outside auditor, can review them.
How much does it cost?
Every IoT Development project is different, so we don't publish a price list. Answer a few questions in our quote builder and you'll get a personalised plan and estimate — compared with market prices and designed around your budget — in about 3 minutes.
Do I own what you build?
Yes. The code, content, accounts and data are yours. No lock-in — leave any time and we'll help you move.
