From our own work: We built this website's search architecture ourselves: 250 indexable pages with structured data, local service-area pages, an llms.txt file for AI assistants, and analytics that only run with consent. See Flowmatix at a glance.
Research before redesign
Changing button colours because a blog post said so is not optimisation. Real improvements come from understanding why visitors leave. The program starts with an analytics and funnel audit to find where people drop off, then adds heatmaps, session recordings and user testing to see what they struggle with on those pages. Customer surveys and support logs add the reasons that numbers alone cannot show.
The problems are often mundane and costly: a form that rejects valid phone numbers, shipping costs that appear too late, a page that hides the price, or a mobile layout where the main button sits far below the first screen. Fixing those can matter more than any test.
A structured testing program
Findings become a hypothesis backlog. Each entry states what will change, why the research suggests it will help and how success will be measured. Ideas are ranked by expected impact and effort, and the strongest go into A/B or multivariate tests that split real traffic between versions. Every test is checked across browsers and devices before launch, so a broken variation never skews the result.
Tests run until they have enough data to trust the result, not until the first good-looking week. Monthly reports show what was tested, what won, what lost and what was learned, because a losing test still tells you something about your customers. Winning changes are built into the live site, so improvements do not stay stuck inside a testing tool.
Is there enough traffic to test?
A/B testing needs volume. Pages with only a few dozen conversions a month cannot produce reliable results in a reasonable time. For lower-traffic sites, the program leans on research and well-established fixes rolled out directly, with results watched closely, rather than formal split tests.
CRO suits e-commerce stores, SaaS products and lead-generation sites with steady traffic and a clear conversion goal. If tracking is broken or traffic is tiny, fixing measurement or growing visitors comes first. The first month is mostly research, so testing starts on solid ground rather than hunches.

Frequently asked questions
How long does an A/B test take?
It depends on traffic and on how big the difference between versions turns out to be. Busy pages may reach a reliable result in a couple of weeks; quieter pages can take much longer. Each test is planned with a minimum sample size so it is not stopped too early.
Will testing hurt our SEO?
Not when it is done properly. Tests are kept temporary, variations stay close to the original content, and winning versions are made permanent once a test ends, which keeps the experience consistent for both visitors and search engines.
