From our own work: We built Pulse, a fitness membership and coaching platform concept with member accounts, programs and a progress dashboard, to show how app products should look and behave. Read the Pulse case study.

Start with the questions, not the charts

Most companies already have plenty of data. It sits in the CRM, the accounting software, the e-commerce platform, ad accounts and a dozen spreadsheets. The problem is that answering a simple question, such as which channel brings the customers who stay longest, means exporting files from four systems and hoping the numbers match. Business intelligence work fixes that by bringing data into one reliable place and building dashboards around the questions leadership asks every week.

Those questions differ between businesses. A distributor may care most about margin by customer and product line, a service company about utilisation and pipeline, an online store about repeat purchase rate and acquisition cost by channel. We spend the first sessions agreeing on a short list of measures that drive real decisions, then design the data model to answer them reliably. Charts that nobody acts on are left out, which keeps dashboards fast to read and cheaper to maintain.

How the pipeline is built

The first step is a data source audit: what systems you use, how they define customers, orders and revenue, and where definitions conflict. We then model the data and build ETL or ELT pipelines that load it into a warehouse such as BigQuery, Snowflake or PostgreSQL on a schedule. Transformations are documented, so everyone agrees on what an active customer or a qualified lead means.

Dashboards are built in Looker Studio, Power BI or Metabase, depending on cost and what your team already knows. The same clean warehouse also becomes the foundation for AI projects, which need consistent data to produce useful answers. Initial builds typically take two to eight weeks.

Who gets the most from BI

It pays off for companies with several systems that need to be read together, leadership teams that spend meetings reconciling numbers and businesses preparing for AI projects.

If all your data lives in one platform with decent built-in reports, start there. A warehouse adds cost and maintenance that only makes sense once you have outgrown native reporting. We can review your current reports first and tell you which stage you are at.

Frequently asked questions

Do we need big data tools for business intelligence?

Rarely. Most small and mid-size businesses have modest data volumes that a standard warehouse handles easily. The phrase big data matters less than having clean, connected data and agreed definitions. We size the tools to your volume.

Who maintains the pipelines after launch?

You can take them over with the documentation provided, or keep us on a support plan to monitor loads, fix broken connectors when a source system changes its API, and add new reports as questions evolve.

How much does it cost?

Every BI & Big Data project is different, so we don't publish a price list. Answer a few questions in our quote builder and you'll get a personalised plan and estimate — compared with market prices and designed around your budget — in about 3 minutes.

Do I own what you build?

Yes. The code, content, accounts and data are yours. No lock-in — leave any time and we'll help you move.
