The three metrics in plain language
LCP: how long until the main content is visible — target under 2.5 seconds. INP: how quickly the page reacts when users tap or type — target under 200 ms. CLS: whether things jump around while loading — target under 0.1. Google measures these from real Chrome users, not lab tests.
What usually breaks them
Oversized images, render-blocking scripts, fonts loaded carelessly, and layout that reserves no space for images or embeds. The fixes are engineering discipline more than tricks: modern image formats, code splitting, and reserved dimensions — reasons performance is a build-time concern, not a post-launch patch.
