What Google Ads Cost in Toronto in 2026: CPC, Cost per Lead and a First Budget
Google Ads cost in Toronto for 2026: sourced cost-per-click and cost-per-lead benchmarks by industry, typical management fees, and how to set a first budget.
The short answer
Google Ads cost in Toronto comes in three parts: the clicks (benchmark averages of US$5.42 per click and US$66.69 per lead across industries in 2026, with trades and legal well above that), management (typically 10 to 20% of spend or a flat monthly fee), and the landing page and call tracking that make the clicks count. A sensible first budget buys about three months of data and at least ten leads a month at your industry's cost per lead. There is no published Toronto-only dataset, so treat US benchmarks as a floor and expect GTA competition to push you higher.
How Google Ads pricing actually works
You do not buy a placement; you bid in an auction every time someone searches. You pay only when a person clicks, which is why the model is called pay-per-click. The price of that click depends on how many advertisers want the same search, how relevant Google judges your ad and landing page, and how much you are willing to bid.
You control spend with an average daily budget. Google's rules are specific: on any single day you can be charged up to twice your average daily budget, but in a month you will not pay more than 30.4 times it. So a C$50 daily budget means a monthly ceiling of C$1,520, whatever happens on a busy Tuesday.
What you actually care about is not the click price but the cost per lead: ad spend divided by the calls, forms and bookings it produced. Two accounts with the same click price can have wildly different costs per lead depending on the landing page and who answers the phone.
Google Ads cost in Toronto: benchmarks by industry
The most useful public data comes from LocaliQ and WordStream, which publish annual benchmarks from thousands of client campaigns. The figures are US dollars and US-weighted. As of October 2026 the Bank of Canada's daily rate was 1.4154 Canadian dollars per US dollar, so multiply by roughly 1.4 for a Canadian-dollar feel, and remember that Toronto is among the most competitive markets in the country.

Trades deserve their own table because the spread is so wide. LocaliQ's home services benchmarks, based on 3,211 US campaigns, show median costs per lead of US$46.99 for cleaning services, US$93.69 for electricians, US$127.74 for air conditioning, US$129.02 for plumbing and US$228.15 for roofing and gutters. A roofer and a cleaner can both be "doing well" on Google Ads at costs per lead five times apart.

Someone has to build the campaigns, write the ads, add negative keywords, test landing pages and read the search-term reports every week. That is either your time or a fee. There is no independent survey of Canadian agency pricing, so the best available picture comes from published pricing guides. One such guide from consultancy Yael Consulting (February 2026) describes three common models: a percentage of ad spend, typically 10 to 20% (as low as 7% on very large budgets, as high as 30% on small ones); flat fees of roughly US$500 to US$2,000 a month for most small accounts, ranging from US$200 to over US$5,000; and performance deals of US$15 to US$150 per lead. Treat these as market ranges, not a quote.
Three things to check before you sign with anyone:
- Who owns the account. It should be your Google Ads account with the agency as a manager, so the history and data stay with you if you part ways.
- What they report. Leads with call recordings and form sources, not impressions. Our own Google Ads management is reported in leads for this reason.
- Whether the landing page is included. Sending ads to your homepage is the most common way to overpay per lead; see our landing page rules for what a dedicated page needs.
How to set a first budget that produces real data
Work backwards from leads, not from a round number.
- Pick a target. Ten leads a month is the minimum that tells you anything about quality and close rate.
- Multiply by your industry's cost per lead. A GTA plumber using the US$129.02 benchmark would plan about US$1,290 a month in ad spend, or roughly C$1,800 at the current exchange rate, and should expect to run higher in the city.
- Set the daily budget. Divide the monthly figure by 30.4. In the example above that is about C$60 a day.
- Commit to three months. The first month is learning; the second is pruning; the third is the one you judge.
- Add the management and page costs to get the true monthly figure, then check it against the margin on a typical job.
If that total is uncomfortable, do not shrink the daily budget to a few dollars; you will get too few clicks to learn from. Narrow the campaign instead: one service, one tight geographic radius, exact and phrase match keywords only. For eligible trades, Local Services Ads charge per lead rather than per click and can be a gentler entry; we compare them in Local Services Ads vs Google Ads. Contractors specifically can follow our campaign set-up guide.
The costs nobody puts in the proposal
- Unanswered calls. A lead you paid US$129 for and sent to voicemail is the most expensive thing in your marketing.
- No call tracking. Without a tracking number on the landing page you cannot tell which keywords produce customers, so you cannot cut the ones that do not.
- Brand bidding by competitors. In dense Toronto categories, rivals bid on your business name. Defending it costs little per click but adds up.
- Seasonality. Furnace and air conditioning clicks spike with the weather; budget for the peaks rather than averaging them away.
Key takeaways
- Benchmark Google Ads costs in 2026 are US$5.42 per click and US$66.69 per lead across industries; Toronto trades and legal run far higher.
- Management typically adds 10 to 20% of spend or a flat monthly fee; make sure the account and data stay yours.
- Set the first budget from a lead target multiplied by your industry's cost per lead, then run it for three months before judging.
- Landing pages, call tracking and answering the phone move cost per lead more than bidding tactics do.
Frequently asked questions
How much do Google Ads cost per month for a small business in Toronto?
Enough to buy about ten leads at your industry's cost per lead, plus management. Using 2026 benchmarks, that ranges from a few hundred dollars a month for restaurants and auto repair to well over C$1,500 for plumbing, roofing or legal services, before fees.
Why are my clicks more expensive than the benchmark?
Benchmarks are US-weighted averages across cities of every size. Toronto has more advertisers per search, which raises auction prices, and new accounts with low quality scores pay more until their ads and landing pages prove relevant.
Is it worth paying an agency if my budget is small?
Below roughly 100 clicks a month there is not enough data for anyone to optimise, so a fee is hard to justify; run a tightly scoped campaign yourself. Once spend is high enough that a 20% efficiency gain exceeds the fee, management usually pays for itself.
